Mastering Makeup Methods

Stage makeup completed any dancers look on stage and made the group look all in unison when it came to show time. All dancers created the same makeup look during a performance so they looked professional and so it popped out to the audience. By wearing a specific look, it created a certain mood to the crowd.

Dancers incorporated mascara and fake eyelashes to any stage look. "Fake eyelashes are use when preforming because then they appear larger so that the crowd can see them and they really pop," said Liz Hall. Fake eye lashes drew attention to the eyes and therefore to the dancer's face when preforming. First, dancers applied a dark black liquid eyeliner to the top of the eyes, and then they prepared the fake eyelashes by cutting them to fit the eye and swiped an eyelash adhesive to the bottom of them. They applied them with tweezers. Lastly, they air dried for at least 60 seconds. When an entire group preformed with them on, it really added unison and an edge to their look.
"Red lipstick is used on stage to make them look more vibrant and noticeable to the audience," said Caitlin P. Lip stick created a crucial look when it came to stage makeup. The traditional look consisted of a bright red with a hint of sparkles. To create this look, dancers tried a bright red matte lipstick and added a touch of sparkly gloss on top of it to add dimension. In the case of a themed dance this could change, such as blue for an ice-themed dance. Dancers applied lipstick right before going on and, if it is a long recital, at least one or twice throughout.
"To make the people in the audience notice their cheekbones and enhance their smiles," said Raelynn N. For this reason, many dancers wore pink blush on stage during a performance. The pink highlighted the cheeks and made a smile seem twice as sweet. This also drew attention to the face of the performer. Although, dancers never over used this product. The overall looks captured a SLIGHT pink tint to the cheek bones.

To add to the eye make up, eyeshadow with lots of sparkles in it stood out the most. "The sparkles on your eyes bring attention to the stage and the dancers' faces if they are all wearing it," Shannon. Dancers accepted two looks for eyeshadow for a stage performance. The dancer wore a lighter shade such as pink with tints of silver and gold to contrast against the black eyeliner and dark mascara and fake eyelashes. Another dancer wore a more dramatic look with a dark brown shadow or gray metallic that added to the other dark elements and created a more bold statement on stage.
Combining all these elements of stage makeup added up to create a dramatic look that drew the eye of any crowd. When all dancers wore their make up the same way, it created unity and created the allusion that they danced more together as a group. Stage makeup enhanced any dance to a professional level so that it appealed to more audiences.
